Rules of entry

By submitting a film you accept these rules. The version you accepted (2026-10-v1) is saved with your entry.

1. Who can enter

• Filmmakers and storytellers from Limpopo and across South Africa.
• The person submitting must be the director, the producer, or someone they have authorised to enter the film.
• You can enter if you are under 18. A parent or legal guardian must give their details and consent in the portal first.
• One account per person. Duplicate accounts may be closed and their entries disqualified.

2. What you can enter

• Completed films finished after 1 January 2024. We do not accept works in progress or rough cuts.
• Any language. If the dialogue or narration is not in English, the film must have English subtitles.
• Each category has its own rules, such as runtime or language. The portal only offers the categories your film qualifies for.
• Up to five films per person. Each film can be entered into every category it qualifies for.
• If generative AI was used to create substantial parts of the picture or sound, say so in your credits.

3. How to enter

• Entries are accepted only through this website's portal. Entry is free. No one may charge you a fee to enter Mirunzini.
• Send your film as a private link (Vimeo, YouTube unlisted, Google Drive or similar) with its password. If the portal offers direct upload, you may upload an MP4 or MOV file instead.
• Your link and password must keep working until the festival ends on 12 December 2026.
• Entries close at 23:59 South African time on the closing date shown on the website. Late entries are only accepted if we announce a late window.

4. Rights and clearances

By entering, you confirm that:

• you own or control all the rights needed to submit the film and have it screened;
• all music, footage, artwork and other material in the film is original, licensed or cleared;
• everyone who appears in the film agreed to appear in it; and
• the information you gave us is true.

You are responsible for any claim that arises because these statements are not true.

5. Selection and screening

• Every eligible entry is watched and assessed by the festival's programming team and jury. Their decisions are final.
• We will email every entrant with the outcome before the festival. You can also follow your entry's status in the portal.
• If your film is selected, you agree that it may be screened at the Mirunzini Film Festival in Thohoyandou on 11 and 12 December 2026. We will ask you for a screening file by a set date.
• If your film is selected, we may use its title, poster, stills and up to three minutes of excerpts to promote the festival.

6. Disqualification

We may disqualify an entry at any stage if the information given is false, if the film infringes someone else's rights, if it contains hate speech or unlawful content, or if these rules are broken.

7. Withdrawing

You can withdraw an entry at any time from the portal. Once the festival programme is published, please email us first.

Mirunzini Theatre Fest (4–5 December 2026)

Applications to perform or facilitate at the Theatre Fest use the same portal and the same rules as above, with these differences:

• Who can apply: artists, theatre-makers, performers, musicians, dancers, facilitators and industry practitioners from Limpopo and across South Africa. Groups apply through one lead contact.
• Send a link to a video or audio recording of the work, or of recent work, instead of a film screener.
• You confirm that you hold the rights to perform the work, including any script, music or choreography, and that every performer agreed to take part. Performers under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent.
• You confirm that you can perform in Thohoyandou on 4 or 5 December 2026 if selected.
• Applications close at 23:59 South African time on the Theatre Fest closing date shown on the website.

8. Your personal information

We handle your details as set out in our privacy notice, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

9. Changes

We may update these rules. If we do, the new version applies to entries made after the change, and we will tell existing entrants about anything that affects them.
